Immigration Aid Manchester
Independent legal advice & representation from the
Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit
Hope, one of our clients recently wrote to us saying: "I am a
Zambian national; when I was 13 years old I was granted leave to
enter the UK as a visitor. I was escaping a life of poverty and
abuse.
I contacted you in 2000 and you made an application for me to
stay in this country. The application was refused and I was served
with a notice of decision to deport. An appeal was lodged and
after many years the case was listed to be heard before an
Immigration Judge who concluded that the Home Office had not
considered my case under the Human Rights Act. You made
further representations on my behalf to the Home Office,
maintaining that the decision to deport was a breach of the
Human Rights Act.
In November 2006 the Home Office wrote to me. Their letter
confirmed their earlier decision and I was faced with the choice to
either leave voluntarily or be deported. While I had been waiting
for a decision I left school, went to college and got a job which I
have remained in since. Four years ago I met a British national,
we became partners and are still together. With your support and
advice from I decided to leave the UK voluntarily and return to
Zambia.
My partner and I had made a commitment to marry and at the end
of 2006 we left the UK together. We married in Zambia and made
a Spouse Application to return to the UK. The Application was
successful and I recently returned with my husband to live in the
UK legally. I have a Temporary Visa and with your further support
I am hopeful that after 2 years I will be granted permission to
continue to live with my husband in the UK as a British Citizen. No
one should ever be alone in their fight for their rights, and with
your support they never will be.
